TEXERE

One of a kind book, watercolor on 300gr etching paper, embroidery with silk and cotton, aquatint etching, collage with watercolor on Chinese calligraphy paper. The relationship between humans and cloth is fascinating; all human societies " invented weaving" and dyeing. Cloth and specific clothing are still intimately tied to all of our personal cultural milestones. I share this passion for cloth and it's history with the recipient of this book. It was commissioned as a gift, my first artist book commission. I divided it into six chapters, three that describe fibers and three that describe a dye. Each chapter has a "cover" made with collage or watercolor that depict a historically important fabric or technique. There are also six etchings; six applique embroideries and watercolor illustrations to accompany the text. I have used a linen covered cross structure binding in contrasting colors with embroidered embellishments.
